Fifty Cultural Perturbations is an e-book commissioned by Third Party Gallery for their inaugural publication Soccer Practice. The first release of the publication, along with the accompanying gallery exhibition, will feature creators working in the varied mediums of podcast, e-book, xeroxed zine, Twitter feed, and blog. Fifty Cultural Perturbations is the e-book component.

The work engages both technological aspects of e-book production, distribution, and consumption, as well as the experiential process of engaging in this relatively new technology of publication. The process of learning and interacting with a new technology is a magical, mysterious, and cryptic experience. For the author, the publisher, and the reader (who may find that they are one and the same person) the experience can be solipsistic, performative, meditative, emboldening, or frustrating. New means of publication affect our cultural terrain as perturbations, as whirlpools and tectonic shifts. They might happen deep below our feet, slowly over a sedimentary time scale, or quickly and violently at the surface. They change things, but to what degree and with what consequence if difficult to describe.

The text is presented in multiple ways: in print, as part of the Standard Formats project; in full e-book format, as epub, pdf, and html file; and in randomly displayed single chapters, via the website. It is free to download, to share, and to remix, in accordance with the Creative Commons License.
